This Spring, make sure you take advantage of the highly anticipated Yayoi Kusama's Cosmic Nature art exhibit at the Botanical Gardens. Yayoi Kusama, a conceptual artist, is best known for her infinity mirrors, paintings, and sculptures crowded with polka dots and hordes of fans she typically draws. Due to Covid-19, the exhibit was postponed, and as of this past Saturday, April 10, it is now officially open to the public until October 31.
We are looking forward to diving into the vertiginous delights of dots and infinite reflection at "Kusama: Cosmic Nature," an expansive show of outdoor sculptures, along with special gallery exhibits and installations, set among the flowering cherries of the New York Botanical Garden. With timed entry tickets and 250 acres to wander through, the venue also offers a rare chance to contemplate Kusama with a bit of elbow room due to social distancing guidelines.
This exhibit has been in the making for the past three years. Among the gardens blooming cherry blossoms and daffodils, visitors can find trees wrapped in red and white polka dot fabric, several monumental sculptures, one being 'I Want to Fly to the Universe' located at the reflecting pool. Guests can also enter a dark room and get lost in a patch of luminous golden gourds called Pumpkins Screaming About Love Beyond Infinity.
Once the summer months hit, a brand new Infinity Mirrored Room will be accessible in the Home Gardening Center. Along with Kusama's first Obliteration greenhouse, Flower Obsession. This is inspired by her family's seed nursery within her hometown of Matsumoto, Japan. The space is furnished, including plants, gardening books, and more horticultural details. These will gradually turn coral due to the silk flowers and stickers guests are given to place anywhere within the installation.
These are just a few descriptions of what you will embrace when stepping foot into this exciting art exhibit. So while Yayoi Kusama takes over, the Botanical Gardens make sure you secure your spot and get your ticket today to check it out.
